           BIRD MIGRATION

Bird Migration is one of the miracles of nature.  Some birds fly nonstop up to 1000s of kilometers without food and water and facing terrible weather.  It is very fascinating.

For many years no one has known why birds fly?  Where do they go?  Where and how they find their way and why they fly in V shape.  Scientists are finding new technologies to answer these.

Why And Why The Birds Migrate:

It is a very complex question but the reason is simple, birds migrate to breed safely and find a place in search of food.

Birds will migrate to summer climate and vice verse to not lose their food in snow and heat.

What Speeds Do Migratory Birds Search:

The great snipe is the fastest bird ever discovered.  Scientists have found the birds fly without stopping over a distance of 7000 km from Sweden to central Africa an astonishing 100 km/hr.

How Do They Fly Very High:

  Ruppell's Griffon Vulture:

The bar-headed geese rise to 30,000 feet over mt. Everest on their way from Tibet plateau to winter grounds.  The biggest honors go to a Ruppell's Griffon Vulture.

It flows at a height of 37,900 feet and alas it got stuck in a jet engine and diet.  But it is truly a miracle.

Who Has The Record Of Longes Migration On Planet:

The Arctic tern has the longest distance migration of 81,600 feet stunning long migration it flys in artic to Antarctica and the back.  This is the longest journey in the world and the distance covered by it during lifetime is equivalent to 3 times.

Trip to the moon and the back.  It is really very incredible.

How do the birds fly non-stop?

Birds fly non-stop without eating or sleeping or drinking.  The bar-tailed godwit is called the endurance champion because it completed 11,000 km non-stop flight.

It completed 11 days of non-stop flight across the Pacific ocean.  It's truly amazing right.

HOW DO THEY FIND THEIR WAY?

They find their way by the earth's magnetic waves and by 8 stars during the night.  Some birds find their way by remembering landmarks.  Some birds were captured and tried to distract.  But they were still able to find their way along the track.

WHY DO THEY FLY IN V FORMATION?

They do it because they take less force and work done to complete the journey.  The first bird in the v formation has to work the hardest since it's against the wind and the rest birds take advantage of it and when it tires.

The remaining of them take the charge to maintain the V formation.

HOW DO THEY PREPARE THEMSELVES FOR THE FLIGHT?

The Tiny Sand Piper is the smallest and amazing bird which displays great endurance.  It eats Mud Shrimp which is loaded with omega 3 fatty acids it is able to travel 3000 km non-stop flight and it doubles the bird's body weight.

The bird migration is truly an interesting topic which displays strength and exploration of birds, not limited by boundaries and their capacity to find their way is amazing.
